Brett Made His Dream of Living in Hawaii Come True
Updated: Dec 17, 2019
The other day I got to hear this really cool dude talk about success. His name is Brett.
This guy...lives in Hawaii, on Oahu, on the North Shore...spends time coaching his kids’ sports teams, teaching in his church, and making buckets of money as an entrepreneur...
Here’s a quick rundown of Brett’s life so far:
He grew up in LA and when he was little, after school, his mom would take him to clean model homes till 10 or 11 at night. Then it was back home, to bed, and to school again the next day. When he was at school, he sold candy bars.
In college, he worked for himself by shoveling snow in the winter and cleaning windows in the summer.
Then he transferred to a college in Hawaii. He knew he wanted to live the aloha lifestyle...so he changed his major to hospitality and tourism and went to work at a nearby hotel.
There, he created a program that let people choose between housekeeping every day, or a continental breakfast. The program was a huge success, and it has saved the hotel millions of dollars.
But...his superiors took credit for the program he created. So he moved on. He really wanted to work at Turtle Bay, one of the best resorts on the North Shore. He showed up one day and told them he would work for free. That got people talking. And got his foot in the door.
Time to add value. He realized that Turtle Bay's marketing focus was on selling rooms - there wasn't much to do at the resort. To solve this problem, he stared a business renting mopeds to tourists so they can drive around and have something to do. He sold an experience.
Since then, staying at Turtle Bay has transformed from just booking a room...to having the ultimate Hawaiian experience on "Hawaii's fabled north shore." You can check out their awesome website right here: http://www.turtlebayresort.com/ There's a ton of activities to do, thanks to him. (Oh, and they did start paying him).
He's a great guy, and with an awesome story. Here's 5 takeaways that can improve your marketing and get you more sales:
Work hard, and practice working.
Be resourceful. Find a problem, a need, and provide a solution.
Sell an experience.
Decide what you want in life, then go get it.
I'll talk more about #3 tomorrow. And how selling an experience can get you more sales, more cash in your pocket, and more success for your business. Until then - get out there and make big things happen.
